I've had my Guru for about a month. I compared it to all of the Sky Caddie models as well as some of the other smaller vendors before purchasing.
First off, it works mountainous. Follow the Hasty Initiate directions and you'll be off and running in no time. I like that it automatically checks for the latest firmware release and downloads that to your Guru (if needed) everytime you hook it up to download fresh courses.
It is the smallest unit out there -- a itsy-bitsy bigger than my Palm Centro but nice and thin/lite. I carry it in my wait on pocket and pull it out like a yardage book before every shot. It doesn't catch smashed if I sit in the cart either
I didn't pick the Sky Caddie for the following reasons:
1. Size -- it's a miniature bigger/fatter than the Guru
2. Annual Fees -- who wants to pay $50/year??
3. Satellite Acquisition -- these things only work well if they're able to sync to enough Satellites to be just. I'd heard from a few friends that they no longer spend their Sky Caddies because they would lose "sync" too many times to be useful/trusted. Guru syncs hasty and connects to more Satellites.
The Guru has far fewer courses than the Sky Caddie but they've been able to scheme all of the courses I've requested (at least 5) in less than 7 days -- certainly acceptable to me.
One other suggestion if you have a Guru and a Garmin Nuvi (360 is what I have) -- the A/C charger works for both (if you're like me, it's hard to withhold all of my cords/chargers tagged, etc) . Assign the $20 from Golf Guru and exercise your Garmin charger.
In a nutshell, if you want a fairly simple way that works grand and fits in your pocket, The Guru is the one for you. When you're on the course, savor color graphics aren't going to lower your obtain -- quickly, right info at your fingertips will ...
Just got mine and played my first round with it this weekend - very impressed with operation and ease of consume. Unit is petite (cell phone size) Course download was easy (and free) and once I turned it on there was small to do other than switch between views - information presented on the shroud is thorough and useful and I am delighted that I can read it without my reading glasses. I am going to watch for a carrying case to place it to my bag but otherwise it fair needs more courses loaded. I have not personally faded the competing products (SkyCaddie, Garmin, etc.) but I would recommend this on the basis of cost and ease of spend.
This GPS has a lot of features for the imprint. Accuracy is righteous - it uses 16 channels compared to most others using 12, holds 20 courses as compared to most others holding 10. Customer service is top notch. Number of available courses is growing snappily. If your course isn't available, you have can query that it be added with an estimated turn around of 7 days.
I too am waiting for a carrying case or cart/belt clip to be available. In the meantime, it fits nicely into my Bagboy Negate 180 push carts accessory compartment.
I'm very tickled with this GPS. Best bang for the buck in my concept.
